I do not believe that people who are in heaven are looking down on us, seeing everything that is going on in our lives. Having said that, there are scriptures that show that those in heaven do know at least some of what is happening on earth.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
The great cloud of witnesses that the writer of Hebrews is speaking of is the saints of God that have gone on before us and are in heaven now. Are they in heaven watching us and cheering us on?
Most Bible scholars don’t believe they are. They interpret this scripture to mean that we should use their lives as a guide as to how to run the race of life. We are blessed to have such an abundance of great Christians who have gone before us that we can use as examples.
On the mount of transfiguration, Jesus spoke to Moses and Elijah about his departure, and of what Jesus would have to endure on the cross to accomplish God’s plan of salvation. Obviously they were aware of what was transpiring on Earth
“Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem” (Luke 9:30-31).
Luke 15:10, tells of rejoicing taking place over the repentance of a sinner in the “presence” of angels. This seems to indicate that maybe it was the saints that were rejoicing as well as the angels. We know that angels are aware of what is happening on earth (1 Corinthians 4:9). It would seem that everyone in heaven knows when an unbeliever becomes a believer.
During the tribulation, the martyrs in heaven were aware that their death had not yet been avenged on those on earth who had murdered them.
“They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood” (Revelations 6:10)?
John tells us in Revelation 19:1-4, that there are multitudes rejoicing over God’s judgment that had just taken place on earth.
It would seem that people in heaven are very aware of at least the major events taking place on earth. But it is unlikely that they are aware of the details taking place in our lives; that is the job of angels. I believe that heaven is a busy place. I doubt that the people in heaven have time to sit around watching what people are doing on earth. This is something we won’t really know until we get there ourselves.
