Knowing Peace in Troubled Times

Throughout the Bible, it speaks of having peace in our lives over and over again. God wants us to have peace in our lives. The last thing He wants is for us to live in fear.

Jesus told His disciples before He left, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

If you know Jesus as your personal redeemer, you can have peace in your life regardless of the circumstances. It is a spiritual peace deep within our souls that the world can never know without knowing Jesus.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)

We can know that no matter what happens, God is still in control. Nothing that happens ever catches God by surprise. We only see and know what is happening in the moment, but God sees the future as well. We may not understand why something is happening or why we are experiencing something, but God does.

We live in a fallen world. Bad things happen. It is not if we will experience such things, but when. Everyone will experience tragedies in this life. We will all walk through the valleys when things seem dark and hopeless. But, just as Psalms 23 tells us, we are not alone; God is with us.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (2 Chronicles 2:17)

We can take comfort when we experience these times that God is not only with us, but He can work good out of even the worst of times.

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

God is always there for us. He will carry our burdens for us and give us peace in these times. As a child of God, our peace is based on who God is, not on what is happening in the world.

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

If God took the very worst thing to ever happen in the universe, the death of His Son, and made it the very best thing to ever happen in the universe. Then He can surely take your problems and turn them into good.

If you don’t have this Godly peace in your life, give your burdens to Jesus, and He will give you rest. This may require surrendering your life to Him. Don’t be afraid, for He can do much more with it than you can. I have always been a take-control person, even though I was a Christian, I thought I knew what was best for my life. How foolish I was to think I could run my life better than the one who created me. Oh, how I wish I had learned to rely on the Lord wholly much sooner.

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” (Psalms 55:22)
