What will be Your Legacy?

Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”  It is easy to become discouraged when we are seeing few if any results from our work. If only we could see into the future. This is where we need to trust God and believe that He will bless our efforts, especially when we are doing His will. Like the missionary, Hudson Taylor, we may not see the results of our efforts in our life time, but in the eternal picture, that doesn’t matter. It is enough to know that God is faithful and good and we will eventually be rewarded for our efforts at the right time, even if we don’t see immediate results.

I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

We never know the seeds we are planting and the harvest decades from now.

An example is Hudson Taylor a missionary to China. He worked there for 51 years without seeing a single convert. However, the society he started was responsible for bringing over 800 missionaries to China, starting 125 schools and directly responsible in 18,000 Christian confessions. God was faithful.

A wise man once said; anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the apples in a seed. The seeds we sow while on this earth may one day reap a bountiful harvest that we will never know about until we are together in heaven.

A group of Christian men dedicated themselves to reaching their city for Christ.  They invited an evangelist Mordecai Ham to come and hold a series of evangelistic meetings.  The year was 1932.  A local farmer loaded his pick-up truck with neighbors and brought them to the meetings.  One was a 16 year old boy who sat in the crowd each night spellbound by the message.  Each evening the preacher seemed to be shouting and waving his finger at the young man.  Night after night, the teenager came and finally on the last night, he went forward and gave his life to Christ.  That teenager was Billy Graham.

Little did the group of Christian men or the farmer realize the effects their actions would have on the world. Never would they have guessed the millions of lives that would be changed, because they were faithful in the small things.

Most of us will never have a chance to affect the world as these men or Hudson Taylor did, but we can make a difference in the world around us. We can make a difference in our families, which is our first responsibility.

A Legacy can be good or bad, both will have eternal ramifications. What will be your legacy? It is never too late to begin leaving a legacy that will have eternal rewards. God be with you.
