Jesus – God or Man

As Christians, the foundation of our faith is Jesus Christ. Paul said that we should always be prepared to explain to others why our hope and faith are in Jesus. So, who is Jesus? What do we tell the unbeliever or those who may have doubts? We can say with confidence that Jesus is Alive! His resurrection was real. The textual, documentary, and archaeological proof of Jesus’s life abounds!

“He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He worked in a carpentry shop until he was thirty, and then for three years, he was an itinerant preacher. When the tide of popular opinion turned against him, his friends ran away. He was turned over to his enemies. He was tried and convicted. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. When he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed grave. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never owned a home. He never went to college. He never traveled more than two hundred miles from the place where he was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompanies greatness. Yet all the armies that ever marched, and all the governments that ever sat, and all the Kings that ever reigned, had not affected life upon this earth as powerfully as that One Solitary Life.” Unknown
Our hope in heaven rests on the resurrection of Christ. He alone paid for our sins with His own blood on Calvary, and He alone rose from the grave to conquer sin. It is through Him alone that salvation and heaven are obtainable.

Jesus is the Son of God. He is part of the Trinity. He is God. Salvation and heaven are only obtainable through Him.

Jesus said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 )

If you are a believer, then you already know this. But just knowing this is not enough. Our one purpose as Christians is to bring others into the fellowship of believers, so that they may not be lost. Paul said that we must always be ready to explain to the unsaved, why we believe and why Jesus is truly God and our hope of eternity is only through Him.

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)

In today’s world of political correctness, saying Jesus is the only way to heaven is not a very popular view. But to tell anyone anything else, would cause them to miss heaven completely. The world is looking for an easy way to heaven with many avenues to get there. Satan knows that salvation is only through Jesus, and he will do anything to discredit the divinity of Jesus as Lord and God. Make no mistake, in today’s world Christianity is under attack. But as D.E. Jenkins stated, “Christianity (and Jesus) is based on indisputable facts.”

The life of Jesus is a part of documented history. No historian of any credibility would deny that Jesus lived. His life is a part of recorded history, not just in the Bible and by religious writers, but by secular historians of His day. Since Satan and the world cannot deny the life of Jesus, they will try to do the next best thing, and try to convince the world that Jesus was merely a man and not God.

They may say He was merely a teacher, but as C. S. Lewis put it, that is not even an option: “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You
must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord
and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

Why all the attacks? Because Satan knows time is short, according to prophecy we are living in the last days. We are in a battle, a spiritual battle between good and evil for the souls of men. There has never been a more important time to be clear about who Jesus is.

The fulfillment of Bible prophecy by Jesus should have left no doubt about the deity of Christ. The Old Testament was written over a period of 1000 years. During that time God gave his prophets over 300 prophecies concerning the messiah’s coming. In the Old Testament, there are 60 major messianic prophecies and 270 minor prophecies or conditions that were fulfilled by one person. That person was Jesus Christ.

Professor Peter Stoner and his mathematical class spent several months doing a mathematical analysis overseen by the American Scientific Affrication and by the Executive Council of the same group, using the modern science of probability in reference to eight major prophecies found that the chance that any man might have lived to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 in 10 to the seventeenth power. That’s 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. Or to put it in perspective that would be like covering the state of Texas 2 ft. deep in quarters, marking one quarter, burying it somewhere in Texas, blindfolding a person, and telling him to go find it on the 1st try. They determined that the odds for someone to fulfill eight of the prophecies was one in thirteen trillion. That’s 1 in 13000000000000 to fulfill just eight of these prophecies.

Amazing isn’t it that Jesus not only fulfilled those 8 prophecies but he also fulfilled all 330 prophecies. God did not intend that there be any mistake about who the Messiah was.
